We've been working on Algae now for the best part of 2 years, and as we approach our third year of development it becomes increasingly obvious that the current pace of work is just too slow. None of us work on Algae full time, and most of us have familly commitments as well as work that makes the balance a real pain. I've posted about that before, so I won't go on about it here.
All this means we need a new plan. Grabbing bits of time here and there just isn't working, and while we do get some blocks of time in which to make Algae we need a better solution so we can finish Algae in the next year or so. We have loads of games ideas so spending more than 2 years on a single game like Algae means we can't focus on our other ideas.
So we're planning on doing what every modern indie dev does when they need more time and money - we're planning on crowd funding...
We're under no illusions that this may not work out. There's a lot of competition out there, but we feel Algae is starting to get to the stage where we can show it to people and get a bit of support.
The first step for us is to get a demo up and running. We're aiming for WebGL and Steam at the moment so that people can play on the go, or download at their leasure. Hopefully you'll all like it and consider making a pledge, and if we get enough money we can then work on Algae full time!
That's the plan... we'll just have to see how it goes...
